My Carnaval in Florianopolis
It was the second crazy trip that I made (after the one in New York where I went alone with more than 50 kg of luggage and no place to stay:))
I arrived to Florianopolis in the morning by bus from Santa Maria. In the bus I had a very interesting man from US next to me (he does some kind of trainings with martial arts for CEOs), he said he was going to a town near Floripa so I thought he would get off in Floripa and take another bus to his destination. When I woke up in the morning he wasn't at his place and I looked at my watch and realized it was 7:40 and we were supposed to arrive to Floripa at 7!! I was soo scared by the fact that I missed my station! I turned around and asked a girl sitting behind me - We didn't pass Floripa, did we?? She calmly said No and I calmed down:)
Stupid me! Of course my neighbour from US wouldn't just get off without warning me that we already arrived:) Evidently we stopped in his town before. A pity that I didn't take his email, who knows I could use this contact in the future...
And so I finally arrived! We passed the famous bridge I've seen at fotos many times and arrived at Rodoviaria Rita Maria (Bus terminal). The 3 trainees from Colombia who took the bus 20 minutes earlier were supposed to wait for me there and see if I could stay in their place. But the thing was - I arrived very late and they were not at the terminal anymore.
And there it started!
If you are going to Brazil be ready to get completely confused about mobile calls...or any kinds of calls...it is more complicated than anyone can imagine!:) depending on where you are, which mobile company you are using, which number you are calling and whether you are sending a message or calling you have to dial all different numbers...uff...
All 4 days in Floripa I couldn't reach almost anybody by phone...
But I got a message from trainees from Greece and England telling me the address of their hostel and that there was a place for me. So after waiting 2 hours at the bus terminal I finally went there. A night in that hostel during Carnaval costed 80 reais!! Considering that I payed 20 in Paraty in October and that I simply didn't have so much money with me to pay for 3 nights I said I wouldn't stay in that hostel.
Did I have other options?? NO! I sent a couple more annoying messages and emails to people who were in Floripa asking for a host and decided to join the company of the trainees and their friends and enjoy the Carnaval. I trusted the Banana as my faci team of NEC would say:)
We went to a churrasco (barbeque) in a very nice appartment near the sea and the bridge and with an open part and a pool..an appartment I would really like to live in:) hehe
Then the guys who invited us for a barbeque put women's clothes and make up and we went to the center:) Were these guys transvestites?? Not at all! It is a strong tradition in Floripa - every year on Saturday before Carnaval there is an event called Bloco de Sujos when thousands of men dress like women and go to the center to walk on the streets, drink and party
It was really strange to see soooooooo many men participating in it!!But it was quite fun! we stayed there dancing, drinking beer and talking untill I went to a bathroom to a pizzaria and when I came back I couldn't find anyone...I walked a bit searching for my friends in the crowd escaping some drunk men who were telling me I was exactly the girl they were looking for:) hahahah
Then I saw 3 of my new friends from churrasco carrying the box where we used to have beer to the car. They caught me and I followed them. It was 9 something p.m. I still had no idea where to stay for the night:) Only when I got into the car I received a message from a girl from @ in Floripa offering me a house of her friend. I got really happy!!!!
In an hour or so I was sitting in a bar with 4 other people who I had just met and with whom I continued my trip in Floripa:) That time I wondered how easy and fast those kind of things happen when you are in AIESEC!:)
Next day I went with these girls to Guarda do Embaú, a wonderful beach near Floripa where we spent the whole day sunbathing, swimming and climbing a beautiful mountain. On the way back we met 2 guys from Israel who were robbed on the beach and asked for our help to translate to the guy taking payment in the bus that they would pay on the arrival to Floripa and that they wanted to give him their cell phone as a deposit.
The rest of the time I did a boat trip on the Lagoa (Lake) , went to a water fall, to Pop Gay, a concert of trasnvestites (hehe, Floripa seems to be a kind of gay city), a bus trip around Floripa and some other small activities.
On the Pop Gay when I was going through the crowd of people one guy came to me and asked: I know you from somewhere... Firstly I thought he was one of those trying to meet a girl like this:)
But then he asked: Are you from AIESEC?
I said - Yes!
He: - From ITA??
I was shocked!! To meet a person from ITA in Florianopolis!! haha The world is really small:)
And on the last day when I was coming back from a bus trip I got lost in the streets. So I was walking with a map in my hands and with a canga with brazilian flag on my shoulders( just like a real tourist:)) and a few young boys on the bikes approached me offering their help.
- Are you looking for a street?? Are you lost? Do you want me to help you, to go with you and show you where it is??
It was soooo sweet that I almost cried:)
So that was my trip to Florianopolis.
Only on my way back to Santa Maria I met the girls from Greece and England in the bus:) where we shared our stories:)
I loved Florianopolis!! It is a city I could live in. A pity that I didn't see Jhoanna (my friend from Colombia) there because of the cellphone problems and tha I didn't meet people from AIESEC except Lígia (the girl who helped me with the host). But who knows, may be I will go there again for an aiesec event or something:)
Now I am back to Santa Maria and although this city doesn't have beatiful beaches I am really happy to be here!!
Yesterday I went to a Music school of Mauricio and scheduled a test class of singing for Tuesday. I can not believe I did a step in this direction!!! Finally I am going to sing!!! How may times I planned to have singing classes for the last 5 years??
That makes me even happier!!
